Wessex Valley Home: [In progress] This North Wessex house with views of the Kennet Valley needed soft touch interventions to enhance the views of the valley, with the removal of the dated planting, the reorientation of some of the fencing and the addition of islands of meadow grass to direct the eye to the views beyond. In addition, a curved pétanque seating bench was introduced along with a new access point to the Northern paddock which was planted with native trees to created a private woodland.

Compact Urban Garden: [In progress] A small London garden. With a brief to fit dining, comfortable seating areas and storage whilst retaining the existing Magnolia tree meant a need to create the illusion of two rooms by dividing the space with staggered triangular beds, steps and a level change. Sharp cut Granite stone paving and setts are being used to lead from the contemporary kitchen, transitioning into a more organic reclaimed London granite cobbles and York stone towards the back.

Listed Farmhouse: [In progress] A grade 2 listed Farmhouse in Hampshire with wrap around garden, paddocks and outbuildings, in need of redesigning to accommodate a pool, improved terrace gardens, meadows, production garden, annex garden and small holding.

Market town house: Requirements for an open central space for ball play, meant the planting needed to follow the boundary edges. Blocks of clipped yew were used to intersect the planting to create planting rooms and rhythm to the garden.

Semi rural bungalow conversion: A south facing sloping garden with a brief to house a timber hot tub and a small meadow for a wildlife loving client, whose trademark colour is hot pink.

Seaside: A contemporary Cornish holiday home designed by Robinson van Noort architects needing salt resistant low maintenance scheme that exudes ‘holiday’ and reflects the winged roof design. A traditional Cornish wall incorporated into the designed to connect the site to the surrounding landscape and give continuity on the shared access lane.

Domestic / Rural: Large Wiltshire farmhouse with open views of the landscape. These views were to be enhanced by a wildlife encouraging plan. A small lake and sloping beds incorporating naturalistic planting and a stream running from the terrace to the lake

Urban / Community: [In progress] A resident led initiative to upgrade and rejuvenate the front and central gardens to this Grade 2 listed private apartment block in central London designed by Erno Golfinger.

Domestic / Urban: 1930’s listed building with a compact two level garden. The design brief was to build a garden which echoed the buildings era whilst maximising usable space, bespoke children’s play area and retaining the existing Pear tree. White rendered curved walls were used to create link with the house and create flow and containment.

Domestic / agricultural: A tractor barn in Hertfordshire converted into a contemporary Artist studio and dwelling. The brief is to create a private garden which connected to the surrounding farmland views. The surrounding contaminated soils needed to be treated or buried on site. The solution was to build two parallel retaining walls, back filled with the contaminated soils and topped with new soil. To the North the soils removed for a lined pond and the soils treated with a willow coppice system.

Historical renovation: Re design for a Grade 2 listed Manor house gardens in Oxfordshire. Key to this design was to draw the eye from the lower terraces near the house out to the surrounding parkland. This was achieved by replacing two narrow steps on the lawn terrace with a centralised tiered design and an informal avenue of Populus alba leading the eye to a dome of Beech with a circular tree seat. The vista is softened by Yew boulders and meadow planting. The new pool house beds were planted with Salix exigua, soft herbaceous planting and dwarf pines.

Urban / Community: Design for an urban youth centre for Bristol. A concept project to reuse a contaminated riverside site. The project was informed by a rigorous site appraisal and the design included education centres, creative spaces, skate parks and green space.

Education and community: A project to turn a neglected south facing part of a rural primary school in Wiltshire into a Nature Science Garden. This included outdoor classroom, pond, growing beds, compost bins and storage / greenhouse shed. Built by volunteers and parents and subsequently run by local community residents. This ran in conjunction with a village wide community orchard of 40 fruit trees, each sponsored and planted for and by the community.

Master planning: A concept landscape plan for a sustainable development of 5,000 units, commercial and social centres in Lydney, Forest of Dean. A proposed project for Gloucestershire council to regenerate a former river Severn industrial site. Detailed Site Appraisal and Design and Access reports were produced to support this design. Domestic / Market town: Compact garden in a new luxury development. A new seating area positioned to capitalize on the views of the surrounding hills and raised beds to overcome the poor soil quality on site.

Commercial development: [In progress] A small housing development with spectacular views over Lyme Regis Bay. A development turning an existing 1980’s building into 3 contemporary dwellings with terraced beds and a wildlife buffer zone.

Semi urban / domestic: [In progress] The key design brief for this garden was to connect the House and surrounding upper garden with the lower garden.
